Welcome to a collection of contemporary botanical drawings and paintings, where the images unfold details in the plants and flowers. The exploration of the flower universe is the continuing theme that runs throughout Anna Blincoe’s work, in which she is constantly looking for ways to express and reveal the inner and outer world of the nature of flowers and plants.
Despite man’s hostile siege of nature, we cannot defeat it. Humans tame nature, then immediately dream back to its wonderful wildness. I tell the ending and the beginning of nature with my art
My inspiration is nature, the universe of flora and fauna, water, light, texture and colour. I paint abstract motives from the botanical world, as well as landscapes, on paper and canvas with graphite, oils, water-based oils, charcoal, and ink.
I try to achieve a water colour effect in my creative processes to express transparency and translucence. I work in layers to communicate the multi-facetted dimensions inherent in nature where yin and yang exist side by side. They are essential elements in my visual expressions.
I express a poetic and dramatic balance in my paintings, as it is not the description of the motive that is my key focus, but the essence and depth of the universe I am exploring. Each flower or plant has an essence and tells a story. It is that which I listen to and interprete.
I am inspired by the American artist, Georgia O’Keefe, because she uses the flower motive as a powerful symbol, and by the Danish/German artist, Emil Nolde, because of his intense watercolours and method. Furthermore, I am inspired by British artist, William Turner and his ability to create the characteristic and extraordinary light in his paintings. These are all qualities I try to instill in my work.
